This Land: Spirit Island, Jasper National Park

Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park in Alberta is an iconic Canadian scene that graced the back of our $5.00 bill as part of the Scenes of Canada series from 1972-79. One of the most photographed scenes amidst the Rocky Mountains, the island is a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors.
