Alberta Fireweed
Rosemarie Armstrong
Fireweed is native to Alberta, a wildflower that blooms during the summer. Its leaves and shoots are edible, and Indigenous people used it to treat infections and burns. Fireweed is found throughout the Rocky Mountains, forests and foothills, along roadsides and rivers. It rapidly restores ecosystems after wildfires.
