Where I currently find myself with my artwork is not where I expected it to be, but where I am happy to have arrived. As a self-trained artist, I began making and selling art in 2013 using rusted metal, wire and old window frames, but I completely changed up my medium through the pandemic. Opting for a process requiring less physicality but one that still satisfied my exploration of and experience with texture and composition, I found my way to wood and mixed media. I prepped, painted and collaged wood blocks into small works of art. As my artistic ability again took hold and my confidence grew, I progressed to creating work on various sizes of wood panels.
The figures you see in the work are reconfigured pieces of miniature clothespins and as far as I know, are of my own creation. I typically use string or yarn to make hair and material to make clothing. Common themes across my work are whimsy, a sense of motion and innovation. I deliver slice of life vignettes with each art piece.
