Vanaja started painting while working full time, attending several workshops under many esteemed artists.
She has displayed her work in several juried shows and other venues, won many awards, and is an active member on the Executive of the Art Guild of Scarborough, but lives in Mississauga.

"My adventurous spirit has taken me places, and when painting, I revisit them - I am reminded of the sounds, the smell, and the excitement I experienced. And right here in Ontario, it is the natural beauty of our parks, lakes and forests that inspires me.
I have been guided by few well-known artists that I admire, helping me hone my skills and ability to express myself. In the last few years I have experimented with and developed my own style, which varies according to subject matter and medium.

My goal was to create vibrant, cheerful landscapes and flowers in oils and acrylics. I apply layers and layers of transparent colours with mostly short strokes of a brush, ending with opaque colours."
