Natalia Shields

Natalia is a Niagara-based artist with rural roots who developed her passion for photography during a career as a Visual Arts educator. She often turns her lens to subjects from nature but when travelling, she challenges herself to capture the essence and character of places she visits to share with others.

Natalia's gallery of work explores the 'canal city' and how canals contribute to shaping a city's physical, social and cultural landscapes and a unique visual aesthetic. Included are canal-side views from Venice, Amsterdam and cities in the Niagara Region.

"My images are realistic interpretations of what visually interests and inspires me. To convey a feeling/ idea, I often make use of post-processing effects in my work, and print my own archival prints whenever possible".
